Here at NextPage we are always looking for opportunities to give back to our community. For over 40 years a small non-profit organization called Operation Breakthrough has gone above and beyond when it comes to giving back to the community. Their sole purpose is helping children who live in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving, and educational environment. Caring for over 400 children on a daily basis this program and its employees are truly committed to changing children’s lives for the better.

NextPage and Operation breakthrough have had close ties ever since 16 years ago when a columnist from the newspaper named Skip Slyster wrote a short article about Operation Breakthrough. He mentioned in this particular article that the children had left for the weekend wearing a diaper, and returned after the weekend on Monday wearing that same diaper. Gina Danner’s father, Haver Danner, who was a follower of Skip, read that and was astonished. He was moved to write a check for a month’s worth of diapers for the program so no child would have to go without such a basic need. Soon after that, he spoke with his daughter and son, Gina and Eric, and asked for donations from all of their contacts. They raised enough money to fund diapers for over a year. Haver handed Sister Corita Bussanmas and Sister Berta Sailer his business card and NextPage is proud to say we have supported and donated ever since then to this amazing organization that helps mold young urban youth into future community leaders.

Operation Breakthrough is the largest single-site early education child care and social services facility in the state of Missouri. Operation Breakthrough has affiliated itself with numerous other organizations to aid them in their mission. Organizations including; The Kansas City Kids Club, Happy Bottom’s, NAEYC, and many more. Caring for these children takes all the help they can get. More than 98% of the enrolled families live below the federal poverty guidelines and 25% are either homeless or near it. While majority of their supervisors are on staff, volunteers are welcomed with a variety of options to aid in helping the children.

As mentioned previously, Operation Breakthrough’s mission is not an easy feat to accomplish nor is it easily funded. Overall funding comes from grants and individual donations while the rest comes from government sources. Those proceeds help keep their social service programs alive. Such programs include; school educational programs, pediatric health programs, and family nurturing programs, to name a few. With such a great need, they are always looking for new sponsors or donations to help change a young Child’s life.

Operation Breakthrough gratefully welcomes your time, talents and treasures. If you are interested in donating, options can be found here.  If you would like to find out more about volunteer opportunities click here
