Have you had your media overdose today? Digital media, social media, print media. We are so inundated with stimuli that we may not even be aware of how much media we are exposed to in a single day.
Just for fun, try to guess how many pieces of media you have seen or heard today? Radio, television, Internet and printed pieces all count. Unless you’re hanging out in a sensory deprivation chamber (in which case, how are you reading this?), your initial guess is probably in the double digits. My guess is, your guess is wrong.
You may block out or turn the station during the radio commercials, fast-forward thru the television ads and half way listen to the news while surfing your social news feed. But you’re still exposed, if it were uranium, you’d have a BIG problem on your hands.
While these may be the first and possibly only thoughts of media that came to mind, you most likely had a much larger exposure than you initially thought. Did you factor in the printed media you encountered? Ok, so you don’t read the newspaper or even thumb through a magazine; it doesn’t matter; you still took in print media today, it just had on a disguise.
How about any of these?
- Car Wraps
- Point of Purchase Displays
- Product Packaging
- Labels or Price Tags
- Hang Tags
- Outdoor Signage
- Mail of any kind
Now that we’ve put a great big spotlight on all the forms of printed media that make up our world, can you imagine how boring it would seem without it? The world without print would be like a home with no furniture or a park with no trees. Print is dead? I think not, you’re surrounded by it.
