Envelopes are the very first thing people see when they receive direct mail, so how do you catch their attention long enough for them to open it? A new product called Shape-Cut envelopes takes your direct mail to a new level.

Shape-Cut envelopes are standard business envelopes with a special die-cut shape on the left side to add a unique design element. NextPage is one of a few companies in America with the equipment to make them and we produce these great marketing tools 100% in-house — printing and converting.

The envelopes qualify for First Class Presort and Marketing Mail postage rates as long as they meet the size and aspect ratio required by the USPS. The diagram below shows the acceptable size range:

USPS

The aspect ratio is simply length divided by height. That number must be between 1.3 and 2.5 on a Shape-Cut envelope to meet the postage guidelines. And yes, the shape counts as part of its length. Every new shape gets tested through the USPS’s automated processing system to ensure it can process smoothly.

Designing a Shape-Cut envelope gives you the same creative freedom as any other envelope. The design can still bleed off the shape and every other edge, you can print with the paper type of your choice, and you can still use your own postal permit indicia. NextPage has several pre-approved shapes you can design yourself with several more in the testing phase.
