How Floor Graphics Step Up Your Interior Marketing

In my last blog, I discussed how window graphics help increase foot traffic to your brick and mortar business. That’s great, but the next challenge is ensuring the customers stay while making a lasting impression. A great way to do this is to take advantage of the largest and most underrated interactive communication channel you have: the floor. Yes, that thing under your feet right now. You can put a big, vibrant image directly in the customers’ line of sight.

Floor graphics are non-slip vinyl decals you mount on the ground, or even on stairs. They are commonly seen in museums, sports venues, car dealerships, and retail stores. Sometimes they’re placed for practical purposes, like giving directions, but they can also make a more creative impression, like making the floor look like the sky so it seems you’re walking on air. Floor graphics give a new dimension to an otherwise bland surface. Any type of floor surface including carpet, tile, and hardwood are equipped for this.

As Jennifer Lopez says, “If you go hard, you gotta get on the floor.”

Floor graphics put your strategic message right where consumers are already looking. When we walk, we don’t look up. We look at the ground ahead to watch where we’re going. And with modern smart technology, people look down at their phones all the time. We do it while walking, eating, reading, shopping, and driving (which is dangerous, by the way).  Psychology professor Dr. Joseph King from Radford University says that we are programmed by nature to pay attention to the ground and that looking downward narrows our attention. This means that people will focus more on something on the ground than a poster on the wall.

Floor graphics also create branding at the exact point where customers make their purchasing decisions. Signindustry.com reports that they can help increase sales by 20-30%. When you’re in the shop debating on buying something, floor decals are like the voices in your head saying “do it, you know you want to.” The floor gives you more surface area than a wall and the graphics won’t take up any valuable space or obstruct foot traffic. Even if the graphics gets dirty, they’re very easy to clean. A lot of footprints mean you’ve made a lot of impressions.

Personally, I like floor graphics because they give me a sense of power. This time, the brand is underneath me and I get to walk all over it like a god. When something makes people feel good like that, they remember it well. You can use graphics to give visitors the illusion that they’re walking on water, standing on top of a building, hiking on a forest path, and more. The possibilities are limitless.
