When Sending an Email is Worse Than Not

Marketing Automation is a Wonderful Tool

Marketing automation can save you time, and it allows you to reach out to prospects in an individual way that you would never have time to do without automation tools.

Sometimes.

The convenience and affordability of automated email marketing are indisputable so why only sometimes? Like all forms of marketing, automated email campaigns need to be done correctly. Emails need to be reviewed, and templates adjusted as technology is updated and recipients are becoming more mobile.

Schedule a Regular Check Up

How does your email appears when viewed in (or on):

  • Gmail
  • Outlook
  • Yahoo
  • Hotmail
  • Mail
  • iPhone
  • Android

If you haven’t checked recently – you might be part of the problem. Is your font large enough to be read on a mobile device? Does the email fit into the browser window properly? If your target has to pinch, zoom and scroll to read your content you might as well have never hit send.

Gibberish and Repetition

Did you read (and proofread) the content of your email before you sent it? Really, read it? As email templates are often reused – sometimes with multiple changes to content or updates to how and where the automated content is filled in, mistakes can add up. If you don’t thoroughly proof each email before it’s sent, the odds are good that what you’re sending is far from perfect.

Do Your Links Work?

If the links in your email are not connecting properly (and the reader doesn’t see things as you intended), then your marketing effort is wasted. Make sure every click through works. If you have links to content, goods or your website, verify that they are working correctly. Every item in your email is a reflection of your business and your brand. What message are you sending?

Avoid the Delete

You don’t need to give up on your automated email campaign. Stay engaged with your content, run frequent checks on various browsers, and verify that what you’re sending is easy to read. Just because it’s automated doesn’t mean you don’t have to work for it!
